anyways, Jan has had some time with Ancestry so we've been tracing the family trees and getting our DNA tested. She's 96% English with a heavy IOW influence, as borne out by her family tree.

Me? As usual for an American, I'm about a third Norwegian, 40% English and then some German. My aunt had told us that the English part was from John Lukins, who came here from Liverpool. Jan immediately called me a scouse, guarded her drinks when I was around, kept me out of the checking account and away from the local casino. 

Ahh, but Ancestry to the rescue! Turns out John Lukins got on the boat in Liverpool, but actually came from a long line of Lukins from Weare, deep in Somerset near Cheddar gorge. Salvation! I'm not a scouse, I'm merely a harmless yokel and cheese head. Once again I'm in good graces here.

It's interesting to follow the tracks. We found  mine back to 1500's Norway, hers well back into the 1800's, anyways the next trip to the UK will involve a trip to Weare and maybe a wander through the local graveyards.

I also did that Ancestry test thing and am happy to announce that it's a crock of shite and doesn't work. How the hell can I be half fucking Ingurlisch, quarter Irish and quarter Jock?

Never done one Alan........I don't trust them one bit.

All I can find (from papers my old girl had years ago) was that 3 generations back on both sides were all Welsh......and virtually all from what was Glamorganshire......mainly Swansea area.

Couple of Denbighshire from my great grandparents on my mother's side though.

Though there is a bit of Romany and Jew in that lot it has to be said.......but still Welsh!

Knowing that and then getting a test result telling me me I'm mainly English, or Italian, or Swedish would be fucking ridiculous!

Exactly. My self esteem plummeted and I even began to get conflicted with the rugby thing. Not good at all. Once I realised that it was a load of pish I slowly regained my sense of self. Bloody hell mun, I've traced my roots back to Howel Dda. I can go back at least three or four generations without any influence from across the border. Of course, some one might have been playing away.

A client of mine (estate agent here.....very upmarket)......did a test.

Came back 95% English........and 5% Welsh! He was fucking devastated! 

So he's been contacting all the family members he can trying to find where this 5% came from! 

My missus is Swansea born, Welsh mother......but English father!

So to wind her up I'll say......"Well you could claim to be English if you wanted to".

I then get the death stare and the Swansea voice...."Come by yere and I'll fucking smack you in the face if you start you twat!"

At that point I know she's a real Welsh girl! Uncouth as fuck!
