I couldn’t understand on day two (when the opiates were really not suppressing the appetite any longer) why I was just so bloody hungry and why there was no food. Eventually very starved I dared ring the bedside bell to be told food is served down there… when couldn’t friggin walk! They then transferred my care back to a much maligned hospital that treated me so nicely, kindness and food and dignity. Never forgot the difference hospitality makes to recovery.
