I am 84 years old and so far have kept the shinny side up. I am planning visiting my son in UT. I was looking at Route 40 out of Denver over to UT. If I start to have problems "holding the monster up" I might get the drop down helpers that they have at Leg up by Chopper Design. Ride safe, Bill Yeh......bike weight is an issue as we get older Bill. Not something we ever thought about when we were young. I'm 67 with bad knees so I've now got down to a 190kg/420lb bike......plus the underseat tank helps to lower the centre of gravity as well. Earache Posted August 8, 2021 Share Posted August 8, 2021 Howdy and welcome, William! As for Route 40 west of Denver - avoid at all possible costs. It's currently being used as the detour route around the I-70 closure at Glenwood Canyon and is a massive clusterfuck right now. I-70 is closed due to mudslides and should remain closed for another couple of months. Where in Utah are you headed? William Posted August 8, 2021 Author Share Posted August 8, 2021 Thanks again for the welcome. Some years back I had to put a sidecar on for the wife, could not ride long distances anymore. When I ride alone I can take the sidecar off. The sidecar is a different experience. I can say that there have been times I was glad to have it like the time there rear tire blew on the Interstate. But still, nothing like leaning in the curves. When we do short rides the wife can ride on the back and we take our two labs with us. I was hoping to avoid the Interstates as much as possible and enjoy the country side. Going to Farmington, just north of Salt Lake City. UT is one pretty state and does have some nice area. Here in Arkansas we have great roads for riding. Try taking 40 west out of Denver to Just north of Kremmling. then west on 134 to Toponas and Route 131 North to Phippsburg. In Phippsburg, take Route 8 West to Meeker and Route 64 West towards Dinosaur and regain Route 40 West. You'll miss a lot of the traffic that way.
