When I can get out.......I'm going to be visiting this place: The Sanatorio de Sierra Espuña in Murcia........an abandoned and allegedly haunted tuberculosis hospital!

sanatorio-min.jpg.783b6d0c91b5adab257d712186ea2743.jpg

Apparently, a Spanish television crew spent the night in the hospital and allegedly caught a spectral being, known as the white woman poking her head slightly out of a window on one of the upper floors of the abandoned sanitarium.

Built in 1913, it's been abandoned for 25 years! It now occasionally attracts a few thrill-seekers wanting to experience the alleged paranormal experiences that take place in the hospital.

So........I'm going to call out @Skippy and @DangerRuss58 to join me! You two old gits up for some thrill-seeking?

Let's be honest, at our age it's not as if we've got much to lose anyway! ?

This is a bit nearer for me;  mental hospital and allegedly haunted. ?

"The building, designed by Messrs Giles, Gough and Trollope of London followed the compact arrow plan and was built at a cost of £126,000. It was opened amid public ceremony on March 18, 1903, by the Rt. Hon. Lord Glanusk who said of it "everything has been done that human ingenuity could devise for the happiness and safety of the inmates, and under the blessing of God, for their speedy restoration to health." Like other contemporary institutions, the asylum was designed to be self-sufficient, and had its own private water, electricity, heating and sewerage systems as well as a considerable agricultural estate on which able-bodied patients worked to produce food for the hospital. As well as residential wards, the hospital had a large recreation and dining hall, kitchens, workshops "in which the patients [were] encouraged to spend their time profitably", a tailor, bakery, shoe-maker and printing shops as well as 8 acres of market gardens."

I know of some people who were there recently, so probably yes.

There are several similar places in Wales. Denbigh springs to mind.

Then there's Whitchurch hospital n in Cardiff, and Llwynypia hospitals recently empty but people get in there for photos. A guy that I worked with used to get into deserted bunkers, and disused ordinance depots and the like to explore and for photos.

Can you remember stone bunkers on the coastlines built for military defence in WWII Alan?

Swansea Bay was littered with them........used to play in them as a kid!

The Spanish one wasn't a lunatic asylum though. This is the background:

In the early 20th century, tuberculosis and leprosy were washing through the municipality of Murcia in Spain. Mortality rates were skyrocketing and a decision to quarantine the sick was quickly adopted.

In 1913, construction began on a sanitarium outside of town. The first floor was finished in 1917, but the entire complex was not complete until 1934, because patients who were well enough were tasked with completing construction during the warm summer months.

So despite having leprosy or TB they had to work to build the hospital!

Yes. There were several along the coast of Cardigan Bay as well. We used to play in the ones around us in Dyffryn Ardudwy, but the Ingurlisch used to come and shit and piss in them in the summer.

I know where it is mate and it’s fenced off to the public as far as I can remember. It’s right in the middle of the woods and went walking past it. Definitely spooky.

Are you a Cardie Alan?

Hell no. Born in Cardiff to parents from North Wales. Moved north when I was five, then back to Cardiff when I was eleven. So mainly Cardiff, but speak Gog Welsh.

Thought not! Cos I've never seen any reports of you being as tight as Ren. Not sure any Cardies could actually match that level tbh.

A good friend of mine Tony Smith from Tonypandy ( i hope that's how you spell it) is a keen photography and a lot of his photos are of abandoned places like the institutes already mentioned and old factories and the like, I'm pretty sure he's been in that place in Denbigh

@Renegade has developed tightness into an art. Having retired I’m doing my best to emulate him. ?

You need to ask Jason Lewis (one of Cupid's mates) about our meeting one of the inmates at a filling station near there ?
