Because there is already a market for the good parts. Why make yet another market for something that is already in demand instead of creating a market for something there is a surplus of?

Buffalo chicken wings are one of the great marketing stories of the '80s IMHO. Create the market, grow it by expanding to other seasonings, and suddenly that stuff you used to have to pay to have hauled away is bringing in money. 

EDIT: And I've got to say, when done right they're pretty good.

Last day of riding - 556 miles later and I'm home.

No snow at the house so no issues there, although it was quite chilly when I pulled into the driveway at 5:00 PM...

Not really, always seemed to be a truckstop nearby exactly when I needed one. Worked out pretty well.

Good points = took a throw away part and created demand for them. Nice.

The ones I had that night were damn near perfect, too - good chow with a few beers thrown on top for good measure.

My odo after the ride. I predicted about 4,000 miles and wasn't far off. I skipped the Texas portion of the ride as I was outta time and had to get back home, or I'd have been at about 4,500 miles. Can't wait to do it again...
