I put a tenner in and it went from half to full.

But I've noticed it drops to half a lot quicker than it does to go from half to one bar left.

But my gauge lies through its teeth anyway.

From full to half full, slow........half full to empty.....very fast

All that's been achieved is the retirement dreams of many Brits to move to Spain, France, Italy etc have been taken away from them. The vetting threshold is far too high for ordinary people.

And it can also cause issues within  families.....look at Bob's situation for example. His missus and his boy could move to Italy if they wanted......but he's going nowhere. He's stuck where he is. Now they may well not ever want to move to Italy.....but that's not the point. He had those rights and now he doesn't.

If something happened to me......what's going to happen to the wife? She's not just allowed to move to NL as she would have been able to do. If that day arises my boy will sort something out, but it's still going to be an involved process.

None of this affects the rich of course.....nothing ever does. Just working class folks like most of us here are.

I thought you were a Spanish citizen with a Spanish passport now which surely means you move to any EU country you want.

No.....I am a British citizen with a British passport, same as you. I have Permanent Resident status which means I can stay here indefinitely, that is not the same as citizenship.

Spain doesn't allow dual citizenship, so I would never give up my UK passport! Because legally I would not be Welsh anymore. I can never do that! Ever!

But who knows if Welsh Independence is in our future? That would be my ideal outcome!

Now the land locked comments make sense i could have sworn i read you had changed your passport. i cant see there being any chance of Welsh Independence, the welsh government are fucking up wales more than any English one has LOL. If you have no intention of coming back why not just change it, seems like your holding yourself back a document doesn't make you welsh you were born here nobody can take that away from you.

It's an involved bureaucratic process that goes on for years.....and involves passing Language exams and general knowledge of Spain exams.

I could piss through the exams (wife couldn't though) but at nearly 70 I can't be arsed with that shit!

So far today we've had you Hanoverians taking a pop at the French and the Welsh! Any more nationalities you want to include?

The thing is with you lot, you don't like anybody. In fact, you don't even like each other FFS!

Sorry the way you were talking it sounded like your wife would have difficulty staying in the country if you shuffled of.
I guess you’re actually referring to her physical dependence and that’s somehow got mixed in with the other stuff.

She could stay here forever, but she'd have a problem with her limited mobility. Plus, it wouldn't be right for her to be on her own in her old age!

So that's why an NL escape route is very important!

We can't depend on our boy in Madrid, so it has to be the younger one in NL.

Not to sound rude but isn't it a bit of an assumption to make future care plans based on your youngest sons life?

I'm sure he'd be more than willing to look after his mum but what about his new wife? It is quite a lot to ask, especially when it's usually the woman that gets lumbered with the actual care 😬

Not an assumption......we've already talked about it! And his wife is a lovely girl who has elderly parents as well......77 and 69. She's very family oriented.

Obviously I'm assuming that I check out first based on the fact that I'm nearly 8 years older than her. Plus, women live longer than men. However.....her family's medical history is not as good as my family's. Lot of cancer her side, none on mine.

The wife has always said I'd outlive her, and after all these years (besides my Hernia) I'm still in pretty good shape for my age. Whereas she's had health issues for over 10 years now. But I've told her that should I be the last one standing I'll be staying here!

Sounds a bit morbid but at our stage of life we have to have those conversations.

I don’t think it’s morbid, it’s simply practical, people who don’t make these sort of plans are a total pita for their relatives!

Women do often have a level of endurance that’s see’s them truck on in ill health for donkeys years, men are more like dogs, they often don’t realise they’re ill until they die 🤭
