Saul
Funnily enough I have been out playing with my CBF. It came with a manual cam chain tensioner, never worried about it but I noticed a rattle when riding the other day nothing drastic but audible. So hit up Youtube for a how to on adjustment. Watched loads, all pretty straight forward, so went out and did it this afternoon, motor is sounding as sweet as a nut again, it's the little things that make you smile. I now have a datum for the next time it needs adjustment which hopefully isn't to often. I have no idea when it was last done, probably years ago, given it's last documented service was 2019.

Nice one Saul. Not to put a downer on your achievement but i'm not a fan of manual cam chain adjusters as they can hide a worn out cam chain by being able to adjust past the auto cam chain tensioners range. I've seen a lot of people fit them in the past because they think the auto tensioner is faulty but was just at the end of its range and they needed a new cam chain but that's only my experience with Honda's Air cooled singles.

I have given that some thought Fred. The Honda tensioner for this generation of 600/4 is known to be weak, in fact there is a revised official Honda one released now, only about £80, maybe a future option. I suppose the previous owner went with a manual one to save money as for all intents and purposes it is only a bolt and locknut. I'm not going to sweat over it while it's running so well, done 2k miles since I bought it and I am thinking hard to find fault. Clutch is a bit noisy, but apparently they all are. Doing high 50's mpg and goes very well keeping up with my friends much newer bikes. After all it's a £1100 winter hack, I'm enjoying it. I will worry when there is something to worry about.

Like i said I've only had experience with the single cylinder bikes they have a spring loaded one way plunger that pushes out as the chain wears, once it hits limit and you get some chain noise its time to change the chain but I've seen people fitting the manual tensioners then instead of changing the chain. I think your bike has a different set up though.
