The Long Barrow

So what do you do if you have a bit of spare land, you have an interest in past times and you live in a part of the country full of neolithic monuments ?  You build your own Long Barrow of course :classic_laugh:

That's what some bloke did near All Cannings in Wiltshire so today I went to have a look at it ,

I rode across the top of Rounway Hill to get there.............

and along the byway that crosses the Kennet & Avon canal to get to it ..............

And I wasn't disapointed , what an amazing feat of engineering.  But what's more impressive is the fact that dudes did this with basically their bare ahnds and rudimentary tools over 5000 years ago

There's a locked gate to stop you from going inside but you can arrange to get access for £30 if that's your thing.  I made do with poking my nose through the gate ............

On the way home I checked on the lane with the fly-tipping from last week, top marks to Wiltshire CC as they had cleared it up 👍

Very unusual place Bob!

30 quid to go in is a bit of a pisstake though.

That's for a guided tour , I was happy to pay nothing and just roam around 👍
