Spring Tide

I popped down to Fowey Town Quay this morning to get a couple of photos of the guns.   I forgot that it was spring tides today.    Fair bit of water over the quay as well as through the Main Street.  Even got one of the bins walking across the Quay.   They never should have taken away the cast iron ones.

Shame I never went down an hour earlier as a ship went out on the tide, I did get a shot of the Pilot Cutter coming back in.

I do like The Rook with a Book.  It’s to celebrate Daphne Du Maurier book ‘The Birds’.

Also tried to get some photos with Place House in the  background.  The Treffry family who built it were also the ones behind the River defences.   They were originally Privateers who robbed the Spanish and French blind at sea hence the reprisal raids, hence the River defences.

Place House is deliberately built taller than the church and probably gives an insight to the family’s ego.   The message is there for all to see and has been for hundreds of years.

The spring equinox was Monday, I wonder how high the tide got then? I forgot about it otherwise I would have headed down to Portobello, they generally sandbag the front doors etc. down there for the equinox.

Not sure without checking but the wind is a significant factor as to when the water invades the town.    Not a massive deal here it happens pretty regularly.

I was wondering what was going on when I got to site in Cardigan this morning you can see how high it was before we arrived by the debris left behind, the car park was totally submerged

I know someone who works for South West Water and they were all on flood alert for the North Coast of Cornwall yesterday, I haven't seen her to ask if she was called out.  My Mrs will probably talk to her today so it will be interesting to know what went on.

What they gonna do, command the sea to go back with a blue flashing light? 😆

I think they went to document events more than anything.
