Can you comfortably work inside the steel garage or is it weather dependent?

I will need to remove the end cans out of the garage but will do the rest of the job in there.

My son's Exc 500 has  a bad clutch slave ....they've been trying to find a rebuild kit to repair it...been sitting there with bits spread out on the floor for months now.....I had to put my foot down  tonight and told them to order a new one from KTM...anyway the kit they were looking at doesn't have the piston in it...

The last steel garage he worked in had bars on the windows and a guy called Bubba.

just replace with an Oberon slave, fit and forget.  The KTM slaves cylinders are crap.

Just have to tension the belt with the new much better axle adjusters that will no longer concern me unlike the kak half moon set up on the original and everything can go back together.

Looks like I will have to finish it tomorrow, I need a 1 5/16 socket or 33mm to torque up the axle. The original is 36mm but the people who make the after market  have obviously changed it, pretty sure I don’t have one, have just about everything else.

They have set them but I can fiddle with them, they have the spring rate and valving for my weight less a bit I guess as there is a little bit of preload on, I will try them as is and fiddle with them later if need be. Come with a nice little tool for setting preload.

All good choices in this thread! Looking forward to hear about the result in handling.

Are you not putting your new wheels on at the same time or waiting until the tyres are shot on the originals ?

Well I took a run out to test the shocks on some roads that upset the bike usually, at first I thought the bike was a bit fidgety until I realised how fast I was going, I was cornering 10 to 20mph faster than I normally do along that route, the bike turns in easier and responds to body English easier. It is easier to change line mid corner as well and it tracks road imperfections less. In town it does not jar over potholes anymore. The only bad part is it has shown up the limits of the front end, I definitely need to soften the front a touch but even then I suspect I would benefit from more complex fork damping so am already thinking of Nitron fork cartridges. I will play with the damping on the shocks a little, I think it may benefit from a slight increase. Braking is also better and it seems more planted under acceleration when passing traffic. Going across Gullane golf course there are some uneven off camber corners that I normally take at 40mph, I glanced at the clock through there and I was doing 55 to 60mph. So first impressions are night and day.

How much of that better balance do you think might come from just having it a little higher in the back than before?

Virtually none of it, it’s all down to the damping.
