Ocean BMW Falmouth

Recommended Posts

Not really a ride report but we did get to look at some bikes.  My E46 had to go and have a recall attended to.     Bloody nice people at Ocean, really friendly and helpful given I was there with a 22 year old jalopy.   Did the recall, gave the car a free health check and washed it.   Came away wishing I could afford to buy stuff from there.

Some bikes there. Of course I had my youngest with me and she managed to walk into every shot.

After dropping the car off we walked into Falmouth to waste the 90 minutes they wanted the car for.

Took my Shadow for Maccys

Then walked  down Greenbank past Falmouth Marina

Car washed and ready to pick up.   I got chatting to the service guy who turned out to be a E46 nut.   Really interesting guy, to me anyway.  Shadow was rolling her eyes.

We left there about 3:30, given that we were the wrong side of Truro and about to hit the school run then rush hour I suggested we popped over to Lanner Kawasaki as Shadow wanted to see some Ninjas.   Some interesting stuff there.

After she had her Ninja fix we headed to Redruth to get on the A30 and bypass Truro to get home.   Still didn’t get home until 5:00 but we had a great time singing to Spotify all the way home, even got Shadow to sing some harmonies which I thought sound good. Made me smile anyway.   Bloody good day in good company that started out with me taking Shadow out so her mother wouldn’t kill her. 🤣🤣🤣

Quote of the day from Shadow, “Do you know Dad I think we are on the same spectrum”   I think there is some truth in that  🤣

Nice one Saul but £36k for a fucking bike, sorry but that is just crazy my mortgage on the house was £36k.

I know mate, fecking mental.  The New GS they had there was marked at 29K.  I'm sure it is fantastic but I would not pay that for a bike.

Yes I've seen that but how long did BMW take to put the recall out , you'd have thought any recalls would have been done on a 22 year old car ?

Flaws appear from old age as well. They did my brother’s E39 and that was even older. Back then airbags were a new technology.

Drivers Airbag.  I have had the letters from BMW every year but the light came on this year so I thought I better get it done now.

I've never test ridden a BMW motorcycle with the flat twin...how are they in hot weather...to me it looks like it would roast your lower leg...I was looking at there new cruiser the other day....I sat on it...just the feel of having my feet stuck to one position felt weird to me...not to mention that huge cylinder head inches from your foot...just odd to me for a cruiser...

Never ridden a new twin but I had 3 of the old air cooled bikes and never had a problem with getting hot legs.  Yes they give off heat and I am sure you could find evidence to moan but I never noticed it as a problem.

Not many of the latest BMW's float my boat to be honest, maybe a F800/900 or R12nineT but the rest Meh! for me.  Go and ride a cruiser see what you think, they do look cool but not for me.

No I find their cruiser looks hideous myself....I know not everyone is into touring cruisers...but for the types of roads we have here..Canada and the states  and the distance we have to cover at times...cruisers are the top selling motorcycles ...they are in fact the perfect tool for the job...sure other manufacturers offers great touring motorcycles but it's like there something missing....could be that I'm just brainwashed by the American made brands..

They're fine. They're a warm bike depending on wind protection, but a Harley will be much worse in hot weather on account of the huge air cooled engine. People claim that Ducatis and KTMs give out more engine heat too, which isn't surprising considering the power they can make.

What gives off serious heat sometimes, on a modern BMW flat twin, is the catalyst. That will sometimes roast your right foot.

Forget about the silly cruiser, if you want to try a proper BMW try a GS or an RT on proper roads, like it or hate it but that's what BMW bikes are about.

Well actually the new ktm fixed that problem with the twin radiators...and they way the hot air is push out....sure the bm Gs and Rt are nice to ride...but the prices and complexity of them just pushed me away from them...I like to do most of my maintenance myself...

You were the one saying you'd like to try one out for comparison, if you want to see what a BMW is about those are it.

Can't see how a 1290 is any less complicated than any bike, though, particularly anything with a boxer engine which has the engine heads accessible out of the bike.

If they are anything like the cars...over engineered for nothing...and I'm sure you need to have BMW specefic tools just to work on them...ktm can be taken apart with just basic tools....mostly I was talking there new American style cruiser...
