YamaHead
Our little town's Mayor paid us a visit recently....he's a peach of a human....VERY busy with running a construction company & all the civic duties that being the Mayor brings. He was quite interested in my Ebike, as he's heading up a project that's building a 63 mile long bike trail that follows a minimally used train track over to Joseph. I've rode this trail to it's current termination point a coupla times....it's quite picturesque & NO cage traffic! It takes off just north of the train station & follows the Grand Ronde river for a bit....which you can see has turned into a trickle with the heat wave we've experienced this summer.... The trail doesn't go very far as of yet, as our Mayor tells it....due mainly to butting heads with land owners along the rail's path. A Town Hall meeting recently showed quite a bit of support for proceeding with this project though.... Really looking forward to seeing this trail get completed to @ least Looking Glass creek....it's beautiful up that way! Mr. Mayor also noted that the trail is wide enough to accommodate the Mrs. new trike that I'm fine-tuning.... So....More Ride Report adventures yet to come....
boboneleg
Nice one Scott, we have lots of 'cycle paths' over here that are old rail lines.
Buckster
So how much land do you need to steal off the natives to get it done?

Not that much I reckon....especially since the train tracks have been there since before 1890 when Elgin actually became a town. The Excursion train only goes up to Minam which isn't quite halfway to Joseph...the rest of the track is used by a company that runs recumbant rail cars that you peddle w/ urethane wheels-- like a skateboard.
