Hi all

Just a quick hello from me.

I have been riding for many years, started off in the late 70's with the usual 50cc rockets

I then moved away from bikes for a few years and returned back in 2005 or so when I passed my bike test.

I've ridden mainly roads but had a brief foray into green laning with a DRZ400, that ended with a badly broken shoulder and a DRZ up for sale.

I have had numerous bikes ZZR600, 1100 and a very brief stint with a 1400, Triumph Speed triple 1050, Honda CBR etc etc

Mainly mundane stuff.

I retired a few years ago and then my marriage broke down so now living alone my thoughts turned to bikes again.

I bought an old (2002) vintage BMW F650GS. I then set off on a camping trip around my home country of Ireland ( I currently live in the uk)

I got off the ferry in Dublin and turned right and followed the entire coastline arriving back in Dublin having covered around 2700 miles.

I'm now putting the final touches to my next ride out which is France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco which i hope to be on my way within the next couple of weeks.

I plan to spend Christmas in Portugal, then travel across to Morocco in the new year.

The attached photo was the bike when I bought it. I have changed some things but overall I'm happy with the bike, we are happy plodding along together.

So hello.

Welcome.

Done a bit of the Atlantic coast path myself but not been all the way round and that was a few years ago.
Think of us when you're snapping pics on the next trip.
Stay safe and enjoy.

Welcome, good introduction.

We are a mixed bunch here who don’t take ourselves too seriously, it will be good to hear more about your trip.

Welcome! Now that's an introduction!

I'm Portuguese, and I've been to Morocco a few times. If you feel like you're in need of guidance to settle on a route feel free to ask, although my advice is to play it by ear. Christmas in Portugal is usually a nice time to be on a motorcycle as if it's cold and dry it's beautiful and not so cold, but January in Morocco you´ll maybe face proper weather and proper cold if you go through mountains, it'll also get chilly in the desert.

I aprove on your choice of motorcycle!

I've been studying Spanish Pedro...you know it's awfully similar to French...I should have full mastery of the language in a week or so...

You haven't got full mastery of your own thumbs in 60 years, or English, or French!

Hello, good bikes those 650's .  Quick enough to get along the road and that's all you need really 👍

I bought it initially as it was cheap, but its really grown on me, it will never be a fast bike, but then again that's not the plan.

The plan is fun and enjoyment and it does all that for me.

Thanks for the offer, my plan is basically no plan, just ride and see where it gets me, I don't have a time frame nor indeed a return ticket so I can do what I please.

I'm camping all the way, well as much as I can, Yes I'm packing for the cold and well as the slightly warmer weather but also not overpacking stuff.

I have a few bit and pieces arriving in the next week to make the bike a little more user friendly and relaiable, but I love it.

Thanks for the welcome, I will keep you all updated as things progress.

I'm planning on leaving the UK around the 18th November or so and make my way down to Newhaven for the ferry to Dieppe.

One thing I need is a recommendation for a sim card to cover Europe and Morocco, my own sim will cover me for a few weeks in europe but it gets expensive after that, i was thinking of Lebara?? anyone have any recommendations?

In Europe I would just stop on Vodafone shops and buy prepaid cards.

In Morocco, you want Inwi. In Tangier you can buy one easily as you get out of the harbor and into town, any communications shop sells them all over the country. You can them go to any phone or convenience shop all around the country and charge it up using money over the counter, no fuss or need to register. Inwi has great reception and fast data in places where you would think you wouldn’t.

Hello and welcome! Let me know if you're up for a lap around the USA someday - always wanted to do that.

Ireland is great for riding - lovely place.

Well I hadn't considered America but never say never.

If I do I will give you a shout.
