Earache
Didn't want to go too far today, so I stayed near home. Had to run to Golden (30 miles) for some fuel but the road getting there doesn't suck so no worries there. OIf course, there's a few abandoned buildings along the way...
Earache
This one kinda pisses me off - it's nice enough (on the outside) to actually live in. Nice stone buildings been sitting here empty for years...
Earache
Hills aren't nearly as big as we go down in elevation, but the roads are nice!
Earache
This guy makes me mad - his horses have a better house then I do! Jealous. 1
Earache
This little house on the outskirts of Golden is abandoned, but looks nice enough to live in. A bit small, but still nice enough...
Earache
Woohoo - rockin' in the big city. Gassed up and then back up the canyons to Black Hawk... Link to Astor House: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astor_House_(Golden,_Colorado)
Earache
Riding back up the canyon, shooting pics as I ride, so they are kinda blurry at times. Six tunnels on the way...
Earache
Lots of rock climbers come to this area for the vertical climbs, look on the canyon walls and you'll see them. Lots of kayakers as well....
Earache
Downtown Black Hawk - one of our two streets. We have a few casinos in town but that's about it. No other businesses...
Earache
On to the local ghost town; Apex Valley. It's located about 7 miles north of Balck Hawk and one mile south of my house. On a dead end dirt road, very few people go up there. Several old abandoned houses and a hotel up there...
Earache
Building with the flat front was a hotel in the 1880's, the other was the restaurant next door....
Earache
Perfect example of a gold miner's cabin from the 1800's. Still in really nice shape, too!

Earache
I was impressed with how much timber he cleared for his yard. Must have used the trees for his cabin...
Earache
Some of the other buildings in Apex are behind barbed wire - I wasn't about to risk getting shot by climbing over it for a better pic....

XTreme
Brilliant @Earache! Thanks for taking the time to put all this stuff in........because to those of us in the UK/EU, your scenery, buildings etc are polar opposites to our environments. I was trying to show a little more of what town looks like - it's not all bombed out log cabins and mountains....although there is a lot of that as well. I really look forward to your pics of the pubs (once they open) and towns. Having only been to Spain twice years ago, the architecture is cool. We stayed in Cadiz and Rota when we went to the Jerez MotoGP years ago - almost forget what it looks like. Need to go back some day.

boboneleg
Who the hell goes to those huge casinos, there doesn't seem to be enough population to make it worthwhile

They bus in the workers and the gamblers. Few people that live here actually go to the casinos and few work there as well. But us locals pay very low property and sales taxes as the casinos are taxed so heavily so it works out well for us. I live 8 miles out of town and rarely go down that way so it doesn;t affect me too much.
